Snow Day in Austin has me Dreaming of Crested Butte
Snow day in Austin has me dreaming of Crested Butte
The snow is falling softly in Austin today, blanketing the city in a rare and magical white. While I usually love this unexpected winter wonderland, the novelty wears off pretty quickly when I'm stuck inside with two stir-crazy kids. It does, however, have me dreaming of wide-open slopes and crisp mountain air, the kind you find in Colorado ski towns like Crested Butte. Growing up, our family escaped to the mountains every year for a ski trip — a tradition I've continued to this day.
This snowy day has me reminiscing about a recent project that brought together my love of design and the mountains: a stunning Crested Butte vacation home we designed for a fellow Austin family.
We collaborated with SHM Architects and Michael Weil Custom Homes to bring this vision to life. From the initial design concepts to the final furniture selections, we poured our hearts into creating a truly special retreat. This custom home boasts five bedrooms, five and a half baths, two fireplaces, a spacious great room perfect for gatherings, and a cozy morning room just off the kitchen. Imagine waking up to a snowy vista with a cup of coffee in that sun-drenched space.
Working with the talented architects and skilled craftspeople in Crested Butte was an incredible experience. We meticulously designed every detail, ensuring the home seamlessly blended modern comforts with the rustic charm of its mountain setting. Think expansive windows framing breathtaking mountain views and a soothing color palette inspired by the surrounding landscape.
We can't wait to share professional photos of this project with you this fall. In the meantime, here are a few snapshots that capture the essence of this mountain modern masterpiece.
Hearing about our clients' adventures in their new home fills us with immense pride. It's a reminder that we don't just design houses; we create spaces where families connect, memories are made, and the spirit of the mountains is truly felt.
